ASUU Strike Latest: No Hope in Sight

The two week old strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has continued to ground activities in Nigerian Universities. Despite the negative implication of this action on the National development as well as the image of the Nation, there is still, no headway in the search for a lasting solution to the lingering problem.

Any hope for an end of the Strike Action in the shortest possible time became dimmer as the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Tuesday refused to honor a meeting that was scheduled with the Federal Government. The meeting was organized with the purpose of addressing the issues and matters that were raised in an earlier agreement.

Speaking on the matter, the Union’s President, Prof.  Biodun Ogunyemi told newsmen that the body had submitted a proposal to the government and is yet to receive a reply and it would no more attend any meeting till it gets a reply.

Also, speaking on the offer presented to the Union by the Government and its promise to take it to its members, the Union President simply stated that it was still consulting with its members and its outcome would be made known to the general public.

We at eUniben pray and hope that a reasonable agreement is reached between the Academic Union and the federal Government so that this strike action would become a thing of the Past in the shortest possible time.
