The University of Benin, (Uniben) has remained committed to its vision of “establishing a model institution of higher learning which ranks among the best in the world and responsive to the creative and innovative abilities of the Nigerian people”, as it has continued to produce competent and innovative individuals who can stand to represent the nation at any time when needed.
True to this, Team Uniben has made a landmark achievement as it emerged second in the just concluded 2017 PetroBowl Championship of the Society of Petroleum Engineers Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition in San Antonio, Texas, USA. With this, Uniben became the first African University to have made it to the finals of the global competition.
The University of Benin on its way to the finals strongly contended with schools like the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Saudi Arabia, the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the University of Tulsa, Oklahoma, U.S.A, and then, Batangas State University, Philippines.
Finnally, the team faced the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM) to to come out second therefore, bagging the silver medal.
Okon Samuel Iniobong, Osogba Oghenekaro, Oseghale Aloysius, Anyaezu Tobenna, Henry Monday Oguns and Thompson Edidiong are the brave individuals that made up the Uniben Team in the Society of Petroleum Engineers, Africa region at the Annual Technical Conference 2017 International PetroBowl contest and the International Paper.
