The past weeks have witnessed a surge in the spread of rumors as well as false information about activities happening in the University. The bulk of these rumors have turned out to be false after proper verification from relevant bodies and authorities.
Some of the rumors currently making the rounds include;
- News that the UNIBEN admission list for 2017/2018 is out.
- Rumor that there is a merit list for some special individuals.
- Some persons giving out false information to applicants promising them guaranteed admission.
- Supposed increase in school fees
These are but a few of the rumors being spread around.
There has also been news that, clearance for hostel accommodation has begun and many others.
Though much of these rumors were confirmed to be false, their negative impact has been overwhelming, as many unsuspecting persons have cried out that they have been scammed or duped. Not to mention the anxiety this has caused in the minds of many concerned.
The internet and the social media has aided the spread of these rumors as many students can now be reached easily with minimum cost within a short period.
In response, The Students’ Union Government, through the office the Director of Information, has openly debunked these rumors stating that, they are been propagated by persons with evil intentions.
The P.R.O of the Union, Hon. Ehiabhi Goodnews urged every member of the public to be extremely careful and to ensure that that, every information they receive is properly verified to be authentic and must come from the appropriate body before taking any actions.
He further adviced the general public to always contact the office of the public relations officer for clarification on any information seen on the net.
In conclusion, the P.R.O urged anyone concerned to not stress uniben students with false news as Uniben students deserve goodnews.
