The wave of elections that began at the end of the last session, has continued with the resumption of the 2017/2018 Academic Session. Various departments, Faculties and student organizations have conducted elections to appoint their new leaders for the session.
On Thursday of the past week, the Department of English and Literature held its elections to vote in its new student executives for the 2017/2018 session.
The presidential slot was keenly contested by four candidates with Mr.Charles Okpewho emerging the winner.
Speaking with eUniben on the outcome of the election, the new president revealed that, he was shocked by the news of his success as all other candidates who contested with him were all qualified for the position, but as it always stands, the choice of the people will always prevail at any given time.
He promised to continue with the transformational and developmental works; to continue with the foundation that has been laid by his predecessor, Hon. Eno Christopher, who commended the manner in which the election was conducted; free and fair.
The president made it known that, he will do all within his capacity, to ensure that the talent of all members of the English and Literature Students’ Association is recognized, developed and brought into lime light.
He also stressed that he will make it a point of duty to change the face of Politics in the department and part of achieving this will be to work closely with every candidate projected from the department, either at faculty level or at the apex level of the Students’ union government, to ensure their guaranteed success.
He thanked everyone concerned for the peaceful and fair manner in which the election was conducted, and for the trust committed to him as the students’ president in the department.
He further sought for the active co-operation of all stake holders involved as well as all students within the department to ensure a successful tenure.
