Over 15 teams from Universities and Higher Institutions across Nigeria were present at the Civic Innovation Lab, Abuja as they presented their ideas before a panel of Judges for the spot of representing Nigeria at the grand finals of the Hult Prize National Competition in New York City.
At this first round, these teams pitched their ideas and presented their slides, which involves, explaining to the judges your revolutionary idea as well as your business plan with a stipulated time frame.
Two teams; Team XIGMA led by Derick Nwasor from the Department of Physics and Team AQUEDUCTS, led by Borokinni Joshua from the University of Benin were among participants in the first round of the Competition.
The evening and final session of the competition was held at the Shehu Musa Yar’adua Centre, where six teams from the teams that competed were called to present their ideas before more judges with the teams from uniben securing their spot at the final session.
At the end of the presentation, the team from LAUTECH was announced the winner of the national competition with Team Xigma of UNIBEN emerging at the second spot.
The winning team qualifies for an eight weeks accelerator programme at the Hult Castle, where they will be mentored and trained on business with 5o other teams from across the globe.
The finals and grand finale will hold at the UN council in New York.
